Update June 21st

I met Dr. Shah Musa, one of the chip design architect from Intel corporation, to extend his Nobobangla project at a new level. So far the second phase is complete. As a lead developer of Nobobangla project phase I and II, I am extending a specll checker which works as an integrated module of MS word. I am also working for the “on-the-fly” nobobangla editor.

Last night I redesigned my resume to a short version. I removed all the detailed project info and kept only some important projects. Now its a two page short resume which highlight me and my workability.

FeedPHP is going to be an affliate of PHPClasses.org. Yesterday I talked to Manuel Lemos and finished the initial steps. He has written and great review to my book, Smarty. You can check out this review by clicking here

Its Rainbow – Can you see the seven colors?

Yesterday afternoon I received seven copies of my book, “Smarty”. Though I already thought that I missed the mail because it was so late. Good God that I finally got them. It was an awesome moment. When I see my books, my name there, It was beyond my imagination.

I remember when I mail David about wordpress and Got this chance to write Smarty. During the time Ayesha gave me an invaluable support and helped me to concentrate on my task. I am really grateful to her. David, Rushav, Arnab , Patricia and Nanda, From my Editors Panel also helped me upto the maximum. It was a great experience writing for Packt. My co-authors, Lucian Gheorge and Joao Prado were also very nice guy.

These days I am writing a book on wordpress. Hopefully it will be released by the end of this year. I have more three chapters to write.

BDBlogs.net – The first Bangla Blog Aggregator

Recently I have visited a site www.bdblogs.net which aggregates the posts from various bangla bloggers website. The service is really cool. The display all the posts in this page. When someone clicks over any post, it will redirect to the original blog. I like this service very much. But I suggest some modifications

1. Lets display more than 10 posts per page
2. Lets display the authors name under each post

Today I have subscribed to their RSS and you will find all their latest posts in my blog, at the lower right corner.

Thanks for developing such a service.

Free Software that made my life easier

Free Software that made my Life Easier

I am generally an open source enthusiast and try to use free software as much as I can. Here is some of this software those make my life a lot easier, reduce the everyday pain and finally saves my wallet from getting slim.

Office Package: No doubt I do stay on open office, the amazing office bundle developed by sun and thousands of contributors. The recent version of Open Office is really something that can fight with MS Office. I need not to use any other office package for my everyday office work.

Notepad: You may surprise, but I really need a faster editor for editing my daily code files with the feature that I die for, syntax highlighting. I find Notepad2 is amazingly slim and faster and can replace the built-in notepad application with much more rating.

Database: Well, yeah MySQL. That is my first choice over the proprietary Access. It helps me to keep track of my applications with enterprise features and scalability. And most of all, its free.

Blog: There are so many blog engines in the market but I do stay on the oldy goldy WordPress. If you are familiar with extending wordpress, then you definitely know how it can fulfill your entire requirement for everyday blogging, even for a small CMS. I love wordpress.

RSS Aggregator: Here comes the RSS Owl, the open source java based RSS feed aggregator that I rely to keep myself up-to-date. RSS Owl comes with built-in tabbed browser which reduces the pain of opening another browser to check the feed URL. Moreover its customization capability is very powerful and that’s all, I don’t need anything more.

Email: Ha Ha Ha, No place for Outlook. I like and trust on Thunderbird.

PDF Generator: I use Open Office’s built-in PDF printer. That works pretty fine for me and can generate almost every kind of PDF.

Organizer: Hey can you guess which One I do use for organizing me? Aren’t you? Yeah Is Sunbird, the organizer developed by Mozilla foundation.

Web Browsing: I stopped using “Blue E” years ago. I find myself in love with Firefox. I am extremely annoyed on Opera 8x versions because of their lack of support to rich text editors and a bug which sometimes erase your bookmark list after a crash.

Explorer: Here I sometime use Microsoft XP’s built-in explorer but I really depend on Total Commander Power pack edition. That may not be free at all, but it’s a shareware. But the shareware works pretty fine and hey, if you don’t mind buy it for 28 Euro.

Instant Messaging: You may already fall in love with YM or MSN but I do use all-in-one instant messengers. Sometime I use web based solutions and sometime I use desktop applications. For web based edition the Meebo is the most hassle free software. You need not to install it anywhere. Just go to www.meebo.com and start using IMs for free.

FTP Client: Here comes the award winning software FileZilla. It’s free and fast. You can depend on it for every kind of FTP operation.

Photo Organizer: Flickr is worlds most poplar free photo organizer and it do its job pretty fine. I use flickr for storing my everyday photos, organize them and share them with my friends. I really found no alternative of flickr.

Bookmark Manager: Yeah its del.icio.us.

Misc: I also use the following software, services for daily purpose
1. Stickies for sticky management
2. PHP Designer for editing PHP code
3. Unitty for SFTP and SSH
4. Net2FTP for web based FTPing

Update June 8th

I am ow in Bogra for the Akika of my son, Afif. It is great to be with family members again. I am enjoying my time here in my hometown.

As I already passed ZCE, Now I ama bit free. I am writing my next book on WordPress and It will be published by the endof this year. Beside this, I have to work in JavaFrameworks from this saturday, after a 3-week long vacation.

These days I am pretty interested to learn Ruby. Matz made this language an extra ordinarily cryptic, but short. I can do a lot of things with small statements, though the syntax is pretty mystic. I am not familiar with that type of syntax.

I am also planning to extend zephyr, my Open source ajax MVC framework and make a stable release by the end of next month. I already start working on it.

I am very happy these days. I got my two dreams fulfilled by a short interval. I became father and I became ZCE. Thanks Allah for giving me so much.

Finally – I am the first Zend Certified Engineer from Bangladesh

Well, after dreaming for more than one year and preparing for last couple of weeks, I have passed the Zend PHP Certification exam yesterday. The exam was much tough than I thought and prepared for. Most of all, many questions seem confusing. It seems that all answers are correct – but the truth is only “one”.

When I start the exam – I was pretty nervous. I got a lot of questions checking the syntactical skills. Some questions were from Regular Expressions and Some for Dates. The syntactical questions were more confusing than others.

Before starting the exam we have to agree with a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) that we will not disclose any question after exam. So it is not possible to tell any questions here. But just believe me – It is much tough for you if you just study the practice guide and study guide. It requires real life programming skills.

By the way – I am very happy with the result. Though the score is not disclosed so you get the grade “Passed” or “Failed”. If the score were disclosed, it would be better for every developer who has taken the exam.

I am blessed by god with a beautiful gift

Last week, I had been father of a beautiful young son, Afif Mohiuddin. We were waiting for him for the last 40 weeks. While my wife was in OT, I was simply dyeing out of tension. We didn’t even know whether a boy or girl is coming, before he born. So it was a great moment for us.

Afif weighs around 6 lb. He is tall – Hope he will be as tall as me.

We are passing a good time with Afif. Welcome to the Mother Earth, dear son.

Afif Mohiuddin

Update 17th May : Bangla Computing

Heres come another birthday in somewherein. Now its T-poo’s time. Happy Birsth Day Dear T-poo.

Last two days I was working for Bangla Blog. Almost everything was done except “English”. Today I just finish the code, now users can write in english as well as in bangla. So far in the history, this is the first full fledged Bangla Forum in internet.

Oh, these things make me nostalgic. I remember the night before my Sisth Semester “Flood Mitigation” exam, How I was planning to make a “Bangla Emailing Service”. Emran bhai and me spent a lot of time in planning the system.

I am working for bangla computing for a long long time, since my 3rd semester in RUET. First I developed a phonetic parser that works with MS Word. When Daffodil bough the source code, it ispired us a lot. After that I started working for a E2B translator as a thesis project of one of my senior brother. That translator can translate simple sentences, from nine types of tense. Later I start working for Bangla Emalier and Bangla Dictionary. From System I developed both system and most surprisingly, BanglaExpress is the largest bangla emailing solution in the world.

When I was introduced with Dr. Shah Musa, chip design architect in Intel Corporation, he explored his dream in a new style of bangla computing called “Nobobangla“. I worked in that project for more than one year. I was the lead developer for that project. I am still involved with that project.

I have also spent a lot of time to develop an open source bangla keyboard manager, Srishty. This is totally unicode based and works pretty fine in all Windows Applications.

Finally I have spent a lot of times developing Bangla Blog, with Emran. Emran is a nice man whom I like very much. He is a genius. During this time I developed the first phonetic parser script for Bangla in web applications. Users can transliterally input english to write bangla. And last but not least, I developed this Bangla Forum.

I really enjoy working with these RnD projects.

Update 15th May, 2006 : Whats the story, morning glory

Long ago i have heard the song when oasis and nirvana were fighting to take position in US top chart. I really like nirvana much more than oasis. “Whats the story, morning glory” was a hit song from oasis which rest in top chart for many weeks. Well, that may suit for todays title.

Yesterday I have analysed wordpress and I found some interesting things. Using wordpress, custom fields for each post and get_post_custom_field() function you can develop almost any kind of website. Its amazing.

I was really surprised to see two themes, one is SemiLogic and another is Kiwi. Both enables some amazing administrative panels in wordpress. Using these themes you can trun yout blog into a full featured CMS. WordPress really rocks!!!

gotokal babur jonyo shopping korlam, khub bhalo lagche ekhon. I really cant believe je ami baba hote jacchi ar kichudin porei. ekta amazing feelings. Ayesha ekhon ektu bhalo tobe sarakkhon tense thak operation niye. Oh Allah, save her from all trouble. operation somvoboto 20 tarikher majhei. Ami preparation nicchi ekta leave neyar jonyo, hoyto 3 soptahoer jonyo.

Last night I worked with CURL, just some RnD. Iwas trying to download files in remote server, where the script is running, with resuming. I know I have to pass HTTP_RANGE header anyhow to manage resumed download. Fortunately in CURL there is a option CURLOPT_RANGE which enables you to fetch any range of bytes if you specify them in “start-end” format. that means if I use curl_setopt($curl_resource, CURLOPT_RANGE, “1000-3000”) it will download 2000 bytes started from 1000 bytes. It was amazing.

Update 12th May, 2006

I have been so robotic that I cant find an appropiate title for my posts. Maybe someday I will turn into a complete robot and start writing in binary format. These days I spend a very critical time. My wife is pregnant and her delivery date is 23rd or 24th next. So I have to goto market to buy necessary things. Last week there was a deadline of escenic project, We met that successfully, but the debug part still continuing. It is actually a long term project, so I will work for this project upto end.

I am about to sign my contract paper with Packt about my new book. So spending also a very busy time writing that book. 5 chapters almost finished, I have to deliver 4 more chapter. Soon I will publish the details.

After reviewed by Ajaxian, zephyr got a huge response and I am also receiving many emails. But unfortunately I am runnign out of time to reply them all. I replied some of them, but I really feel the necessity to reply them all. Because a project could not live longer if the support system is weak.

I am about to take a long leave for 3 weeks from my office. Somewherein offers all the standard facility which you cant even imaging in some IT firms in Bangladesh. Well, thats why probably I am enjoying working in somewherein for more than one year.

Janina keno still there is something ja mon kharap kore dey majhe majhei. tension kaj kore khub beshi. Hoyto asolei robot hoye jacchi. Robotder abar feelings bole kichui thakena. 🙁
